Heirloom Wines are exactly as the name suggests, wines whose recipes have been passed down from generations before.

There are vintners all over the country producing wines from grapes: I like to be a bit different, and whilst I do enjoy putting grapes  through the crusher and into my fermenter, I am more excited about using the range of fruits, berries, herbs, roots and spices that were popular before the grape dominated the wine making scene. Many classics were lost when that little vine berry came along and took out a monopoly on commercial wines.

I take these classic recipes and whilst respecting their tradition, do incorporate some currency and modernism to them. It is a craft that I enjoy and don't always get right; but that is fine, I am the only one who has to drink the mistakes.

Wines made from products other than grapes are often referred to as Country Wines, a term which perhaps doesn't do justice to the quality, refinement and tradition of finely crafted heirloom wines. The wines I make with seasonal produce such as blackberries, cherries, apples, ginger, goji berries, and a whole range of other ingredients, will stand up to any grape wine in the same price range, with an absolute confidence and sense of pride.

These are full flavoured and well balanced wines, that exceed expectations.

If you get an opportunity to try my heirloom wines, I really hope you are pleasantly surprised by the experience, and of course, left wondering how that little grape became so dominant.
