Wedding Meads

There is an old tradition of serving Mead at a wedding, and afterwards. In fact, this is reputedly where the term Honey Moon comes from. For a full cycle of the moon, after their marriage a couple would drink honey wine, before returning to the normalcy of life. That was a month of Mead.

When a couple were to be married the bride's father would organise the local mead hall, he was paying for the wedding of course, this was tradition. Now stories as to the source of the mead to be served at the wedding vary and change from story teller to story teller and perhaps even mead hall to mead hall. One thing that is very clear though, is that the weddings were held in a mead hall and served a special mead produced just for the occasion.

Whether you call it keeping an old tradition alive, or reviving one, I enjoy being part of this tradition and making mead part of a very special day.

I can provide a range of Wedding packages. I have in house printing and label cutting facilities and am able to do small customised runs. I can even print  individually named memento bottles for each guest to take home.

The mead that is crafted for you will depend on how much notice I have and what I have ageing and not spoken for at the time. The bigger the lead time, the greater your choices and the better aged your Mead will be.

If you are able to travel to the Meadery, then we can do some tastings and develop a recipe just for you. We can also do all of this online but the tasting becomes a bit more difficult. If you are involved from the start you will get constant updates on your batch as it makes its journey.

A wedding mead is not just a transaction for me, it is more like an artist's commission. I understand the importance of that special day, and like to make it special with an amazing Wedding Mead. Elderflowers, Rosehips, Passion flower, Thyme, Rosemary, Hops, Peaches, Strawberries and many other ingredients are well suited to a wedding mead. This is your wedding: why not make it your mead also!

I understand the aesthetics of the wedding are important, I have several bottle shapes you can choose from, most label shapes are possible and stock paper choices are wide. I can also provide an engraved Oak Cask for the head table.

And of course, that month's supply of mead for the Honey Moon can be individual bottles with labels of choice. They can even each be different if we have enough lead time.

I do not mind spending time discussing your needs with you, please get in touch, earlier, rather than later.

Think big, we can do this.
